This collectible B-26 Marauder represents one of the foremost bombers of the Second World War. The Marauder, a medium bomber, had the lowest loss rate of any combat aircraft in World War II. Painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen with a wealth of detail, this 1/48-scale model B-26 makes a great pilot gift, or a great present for any aviation enthusiast or history buff.
In 1939, the Army Air Corps issued a request for proposals for a twin-engine medium bomber that could carry a 2,000-lb payload, reach 350 mph, and have a 3,000-mile range. The Glenn L. Martin Company won the competition, and the first flight of the B-26 was Nov. 25, 1940, with service deliveries beginning in February 1941.
The B-26 was a hot ship, and its high wing loading and high landing speeds contributed to a number of accidents, earning it such nicknames as “The Widowmaker.”
The Marauder served in unites in the Pacific, Mediterranean and Europe, where it proved to be highly accurate when bombing from medium altitudes.
The Marauder was withdrawn from service in 1947, and its “B-26” designation was reassigned to the A-26 Invader.
